God's Perfect Faithfulness

"O Lord, You are my God!  I will exalt You and praise Your name, for in perfect faithfulness You have done marvellous things, things planned long ago ... We trusted in Him and He saved us.  This is the Lord; we trusted in Him; let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation."  Isaiah 25:1,9b

In my mind’s eye I see a very old man, standing with weather beaten sandals sunken into the sand of the seashore, gazing off into the starry heavens.  On his face is a deeply etched smile, a look of amazement and hope upon his countenance.  A friend of the great Jehovah, he has followed his Lord’s bidding to come and follow.  He has walked many unknown paths and throughout time and experience, his relationship with and trust in the Great I AM has grown and developed.  You are right – I’m remembering Abraham.

"Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness and seek the Lord. Look to the rock from which you were cut ... Look to Abraham, your father, and to Sarah who gave you birth.  When I called him he was but one and I blessed him and made
him many."  Isaiah 51:1-2

Abraham experienced the perfect faithfulness of our great God.  Even at times when he was unfaithful through fear and unbelief, God remained faithful.  God’s word and character stood firm.  What He said He did.  When waves of circumstances surrounded and beat upon him, Abraham grew to know who his faithful Refuge was and that nothing was too hard to God.

Hebrews 6:13 says, "When God made His promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for Him to swear by, He swore by Himself saying, ‘I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.’  And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised."

Therefore let us not become weary or apathetic; rather "imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised." (Hebrews 6:12)  Let us rejoice in God’s perfect faithfulness.  Let us know with complete assurance our God is the Great I AM.  What He did for Abraham, He does today.  Our God never changes.  Let us unreservedly trust Him as He is absolutely trustworthy!
